Pair Stunning French Renaissance Revival Sculpted Buffets is a monuments to the furniture maker's art! Commissioned for a lovely chateau, each is captivating in its uniqueness. The scientific instruments embedded in the lavish carved crowns above the display shelf measure temperature and barometric pressure, ideal during the days before 24 hour weather channels. The instruments are surrounded by amazing detail including a heraldic crests, cascading fruit, and of course ripe wheat and fully laden grapevines for a quintessentially French touch. Below these breathtaking sculptures appear shallow shelves with intricate molded detail supported by four inverted corbel supports pierce-carved with classical motifs and more fruit of the earth themes. The main surface is defined by molding that mirrors the shelf above, and overlooks the most amazing sculptures of all ~ each of the doors features an individual work of art, each of which is worthy of display in a museum. One depicts a successful bird hunt, another a very successful fishing venture, the third an even more successful bird hunt and the last a combination of both. Each carving is elaborated with the bounty of the earth theme complete with flowing ribbon. The corner posts on each buffet should be separately considered, as each is formed from a boldly scrolled elongated corbel festooned with acanthus plume, floral garland, quatrefoil overlay and fleur de lys, all set at 45 degrees off the main plane. Even the drawers received the sculptor's attentions with intertwined fruit three branches forming the drawer pulls. Such incredible works were meant to impress even the most discriminating aficionado, and will immediately become the focal point in any room into which the pair is placed!
