19th Century French Renaissance Hunt Buffet ~ Credenza is a magnificent example of fine furniture craftsmanship married to amazingly artistic sculpture! The rounded sides create a visual impact that belies the actual measured width of over five feet. A clever feat of engineering, both rounded sides contain pie-shaped drawers that pivot out, as well as doors that open to reveal pie-shaped shelved storage within. The side doors are separated from the main, center door by two pilasters that protrude out slightly creating architectural intrigue. Each pilaster is topped with exquisitely carved rosettes on the upper drawer tier, under which appears an acanthus corbel leading the eye down to an upturned corbel below mounted on the multi-tiered base, which continues around the entire visible perimeter. The top edge is carved with demilune gadrooning, and frames the solid plank top designed for centuries of enjoyment. Underneath the three drawers are lavished with grapevine motif in such relief that the leaves act as drawer pulls. The three door panels below, however, captivate one's attentions. On the left and right are exquisite sculptures in bold full relief depicting the spoils of successful hunts in the field. The center panel is a celebration of the harvest with a basket held aloft with ribbon bursting with fruit and foliage in an ode to earth's bounty!
