19th Century Dutch Colonial Neoclassical Raised Buffet ~ Cabinet is an interesting variation on the buffet ~ server concept. The design puts the entire contents of the cabinet within easy arm's reach, plus provides a full width display shelf at the bottom for seasonal or other items. The shelf is flanked by clockwise and counter-clockwise barley twist columns supporting carved plinths and an elegantly executed apron. Although there are four panels on the main facade above, there are only two wide drawers, which open to provide unfettered access to the surprisingly spacious interior, fitted with a half shelf inside. The panels consist of elaborate expressions of enlarged Greek coin with pinwheel and foliate carvings on the outermost panels, with arched colonnades carved with foliates on the two center panels. Fluted and reeded cornerposts, and elegantly framed side panels combine with the grooved horzontal framework to complete the visual appeal provided from all angles. A simply beveled plank top completes the package, all rendered from seasoned old-growth oak.
