Pair 18th century French neoclassical hand-carved and painted wall sconces ~ Corbels were sculpted from solid oak and feature a timeless classical scroll festooned with acanthus flourishes above and below, rendered in full and glorious relief! The wood was then given a distressed painted finish with antiqued wine colored surfaces to help set off your objet d'art, or to just beautify the room without anything on the surface!  Such a pair would have been considered essential wall accessories to any well-designed room plan, as they add both flair and surface area, with frequent use as a candlestick platform for additional illumination in the room.  Today they can be used to accent an otherwise bland cased opening, or anywhere a little architectural accent would spice things up!
Circa 1780s
Each measures 16H x 10.5W x 8D.
