19th Century French Neoclassical Louis XVI Wall Decoration with Marble Inset and Carved Bacchus is an amazing work of the sculptor's art! Created from old-growth oak, it features incredible relief and three dimensionality, starting with the striking visage of Bacchus centered on the arched crown above. Egg & dart trim emanates out from the bust of Bacchus and encircles the half-pediments on each corner, each of which is suitable for a small display surface. Immediately below the bust of Bacchus is a frieze carved with amazingly artistic foliates and fruit in bold relief. Under each corner post appears a two-tiered pilaster carved with overlapping Greek coin flanked by Ionic scrolls and finished below with two-tiered molding that spans the entire width, flaring out at the middle to create another small display surface at the center. In between, a luxuriously veined marble plaque is framed by fine molded detail for a splendidly opulent finishing touch.
