17th Century Architectural Monumental Italian Corinthian Columns on Pedestals. Over three centuries in age and hailing from Italy, this exquisite pair of Corinthian columns has been hand-crafted from select French walnut, conscientiously rendered as pure representations the original ancient Greek models. Faithful capitals depict two tiers of acanthus leaves, the uppermost terminating in volutes and supporting the abaci, complete with four concave faces. Equally accurate, the beautifully fluted columns boast slender contours with an elegant, subtle bulge near the base, a proportion instituted by the great architects of classical antiquity. Providing a less conventional juxtaposition, exquisitely carved grape branches adorn the lower shafts, while the attic style bases of two torus moldings separated by a scotia revert back to the Corinthian style. Dating toward the end of the 19th century, the block pedestals below provide the ideal elevation, complete with fine moldings and opulent gilded accents!
Columns date to 1680.
