Antique Oak Stave & Wrought Iron Water Bucket recalls a bygone era when hot and cold running water was the stuff of science fiction!  Hand-crafted by the village cooper, the oak staves were carefully cut and measured to fit together as tightly as possible, then the red hot forged iron straps were wrapped around the bucket at the top, center and base, so that as the iron cooled it shrank, making the stave joints water tight.  The handle on top is convenient for carrying in the hand, or a pole could be run through it so one person could easily carry two over the shoulders "ox yoke" style.  Note the conical dowel plugs.
