Antique French Louis XVI Neoclassical Marble Top Mahogany Commode is a timeless expression of the architecture and style that dates back to the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Using two tones of exotic imported mahogany, a darker oxblood red framework contrasts with the side panels and drawer facades for an interesting visual effect. The tailored styling includes rectilinear casework enhanced by fine molded detail. Fluted and reeded pilasters form the cornerposts, under which are tapered and fluted legs all around, each tipped with brass feet. Bronze was used to create the circular rosette medallions with laurel ring pulls on the drawers, enhanced with bronze key guards. The top drawer, accessed solely with a key, is flanked by rosettes rounded to follow the contours of the rounded cornerposts. The finishing touch is in the form of a beautiful piece of Carrara marble, contoured and beveled to follow the subtle contours of the casework below for a bit of carefree elegance.
