19th Century French Louis Philippe Marble Top Burl Walnut Commode ~ Chest of Drawers is a superlative example of the tailored architecture and restrained ornamentation that has made this style popular since the mid-1800s. Utilizing indigenous walnut, the casework was created with rectilinear lines accented by the traditional serpentine flare of the topmost tier which conceals a drawer. Three spacious full width drawers appear below, providing ample storage and organizational capability. The flared pediment style legs mirror and complement the top tier, which is covered with its original "sandwich" marble so-called for the groove on the face of the edge all around. The marble possesses rich veining and combines a multitude of shades of gray from dark to light. The most visually striking feature, however, is the amazing bookmatched burl veneer on the entire facade including the drawer fronts and framework around them, creating a naturalistic feast for the eyes!
