19th Century French Walnut Neoclassical Buffet with Four Seasons is a stunning work of art that also happens to perform admirably as a sideboard with abundant storage and serving or display surface! Rendered from sumptuous French walnut,., it features a rounded end design that minimizes the impact on the traffic flow in the room while still providing copious interior space. The plank & panel top is double beveled and contoured to follow the casework below, and immediately underneath appears the drawer tier, with rounded drawers on each side that pivot out for opening, and two drawers at the center which operate in the typical manner. All four drawers are magnificently molded to a high level of detail, and feature a crest with laurel sprays at the center fitted with cast brass laurel wreath ring pulls. Separating the front drawers from the side drawers are a pair of neoclassical corbels which appear atop double fluted pilasters as an ode to the architecture of ancient Greece and Rome. The same motif in a single column appears on the very back corners and in a diminutive expression at the very center of the facade. A bold baseboard with bun feet provide ample support. The real show stoppers, of course, are the sculpted artistic renderings on the framed door panels representing the Four Seasons expressed in a classical manner with young maidens in flowing, silky robes appearing with various symbols of the particular season which each represents. The carvings are in splendid full relief giving a three dimensional effect to the entire work that is truly awesome to behold, especially in person!
