19th Century French Louis XVI Walnut Marble Top Buffet ~ Credenza is a splendid example of neoclassical architecture inspired by the ancient Greek and Roman masters, combined with the meticulous attention to detail for which the French are so well known. Boasting a storage capacity beyond what its specific dimensions would indicate, the design goes all the way to the floor, and includes an interior without partitions and a single adjustable shelf that spans the entire width and depth. The beauty of the exterior begins with the finely veined marble top featuring an intriguing naturalistic pattern and rich yet subdued green coloration infused into the alabaster background. Three drawers appear directly underneath, each framed with tailored molding and centered with a cast bronze ring pull. Rosettes separate the drawers atop fluted pilasters, and frame them on the outsides on the rounded corners. Three beautifully framed doors define the main body of the piece, with the left and right doors featuring mirror images of the timeless quiver of arrows or carquois de fleche inside a crown suspended with ribbon and a bow, set upon a background of wildflowers and foliage. The center door, however, steals the show with a more elaborate display of floral and foliate sprays, flowing ribbon with a bow, and a basket of flowers seemingly just picked from the garden, all in exquisite full relief. Finely cast bronze key guards complete the look.
