19th Century French Louis Philippe Period Cherry Wood Buffet features the restrained elegance that is definitive of both the era and the style itself. Hand-crafted on a bit larger scale than is typical, this wonderful example nevertheless retains the rectilinear architecture with serpentine top tier that houses the three drawers. The bold yet straightforward base molding is enhanced by scrolled and carved corbel feet in a nice departure from the otherwise staid design. Cast brass key guards on each drawer and two of the cabinet doors add a nice touch and protect the keyhole. Drawers open to reveal capacious storage for linens and flatware, while the cabinet doors below open to reveal a completely unobstructed interior with no partitions, the left doors being designed to provide an extra-wide access to the two surfaces within. Note the hand-hewn planks that comprise the back, reminding us all of a bygone era with carefully traditionally crafted keepsake pieces designed to last for generations!
