Antique French Louis XVI Walnut Armoire ~ Wardrobe is a majestic example of the neoclassical revival that captivated the attentions of Louis XVI and his Queen Marie Antoinette.  Crafted from fine French walnut, it features a rectilinear architecture enhanced by rounded corners on the top which are carved in bold relief with floral sprays, which when combined with the bold crown molding creates a framework for the relief carvings on the bonnet.  The bonnet carving depicts an archer's bow intertwined with rose garlands, and overlooks the pair of outside-hinged cabinet doors below fitted with the original full length beveled mirrors.  The doors are separated by a stile adorned with parquet from top to bottom, interrupted at the middle with a relief carving of a Romanesque urn with foliates encircled with the trim molding.  The doors open wide to reveal a hanging rod inside, making this a perfect place for off-season clothes, dresses, or longer garments.  Note the rich beauty of the walnut even on the side, which are comprised of solid panels of the luxurious wood.
