19th Century French Louis XVI Walnut Triple Armoire is a magnificent example of the superlative craftsmanship of Parisienne cabinetmakers from a bygone era! Hand-crafted with select French walnut, the design features a step-front center section with a bold arbalette archwork, so named for its resemblance to an archer's bow. The apex of the crown is festooned with a sculpture of a woven basket bursting with fresh flowers and foliage, tied with flowing ribbon. The crown cascades down to the central pilasters that frame the full length mirror, hand-beveled to follow the intricate contours of the surrounding framework. The pilasters match the corner posts, and all consist of spiral ribbon carving topped with rosettes and carved finials. Flanking the mirror are the side panel doors carved in a mirror-image effect with bold relief depicting a variety of classical motifs including the bow and arrow, floral wreaths, musical instruments and ribbon. A separate relief wreath in the lower panel only adds to the allure. The apron is defined by scrolled legs with acanthus plumes and cloven hoof feet, with a foliate spray across the center. Doors open to reveal amazing storage within, including adjustable shelves and interior drawers. Truly an incredible find!
