PAIR 19th Century French Mahogany Empire Armchairs with Needlepoint Tapestry was were literally designed to last for centuries!  Hand-crafted from highly revered exotic imported mahogany from the Americas, the frameworks were adorned with a modicum of carved detail yet still allow the sheer natural beauty of the sumptuous wood to show forth.  The carvings on the armrests and armrest supports were inspired by ancient Egyptian themes which so captivated Napoleon during his forays beyond the French borders.  His nephew, Napoleon III, rekindled the style during the period in which these were made, using the same exotic wood, impeccable French furniture craftsmanship, and exquisite hand-knotted needlepoint tapestry for the seat and seat back that depict floral wreaths and laurel sprays with amazing realism and color retention, indicating these have been coddled and protected for over 150 years!
