19th Century French Louis XVI Giltwood Marble Top Oval End Table is a definitive study in the neoclassical style that was so enamored by the King! The elegant oval shape means no sharp corners at all, with the luxuriously veined marble top framed by fine molding and providing a carefree yet opulent surface. The apron consists of beaded trim above with spiral ribbon below, interrupted above each adjoining leg with a lavish floral rosette in relief, and on the longer sides with a flourish of flowing ribbon tied in a bow, also executed in bold relief. The legs are capped and based with lotus blossoms, in between which appears tapered, fluted and reeded legs. The legs are adjoined for strength and beauty with a double-lyre stretcher trimmed in beading and centered with a bold acanthus plume finial. Teardrop feet complete the look. The gold finish has achieved a lovely patina over the past century creating incredible visual allure.
