19th Century French Second Empire Mahogany Round End Table is a superlative example of the revival of the Empire style that occurred during the reign of Napoleon's nephew, Napoleon III.  Utilizing exotic imported mahogany, the artisans created a tailored round top with unadorned apron designed to showcase the sheer natural beauty of the wood.  The support column, however, shows expert turning and hand-carved embellishment in a classical design with ebonized pedestal with gold highlights on the leaf carvings.  The entire affair is set upon a tripod base again finished in natural style to emphasize the beauty of the wood, while three paw feet underneath have been ebonized to coordinate with the column above.  A perfect expression of the grandeur of the French Empire from a bygone era!
