19th Century French Regence Walnut End Table ~ Side Table is a perfect example of the style transition that occurred between the Louis XIV and the Louis XV styles. Bold, naturalistic carved detail abounds on all four sides of the apron, including a pierce-carved centerpiece, with stylized shell and foliates comprising the theme, surrounded by cross hatching. Each of the four graceful cabriole legs sports an upturned acanthus plume where the leg joins with the apron creating a corbel effect, with the lower extremity of the leg elegantly scrolling outward down to the floor were escargot tips have been carved. The top has been given an elaborate contour and double beveled edge to complete the look.
