19th Century French Louis XVI Gilded Marble Top End Table represents the pinnacle of the Belle Epoque! Designed with an oval shape which is the ultimate in adaptability, it is topped with luxuriously veined marble for carefree beauty. The marble is surrounded by a top framework finely carved with egg & dart trim. Underneath appears a master work of the wood sculptor's art ~ pierce-carved through the apron all around to sculpt a laurel wreath enveloped with ribbon. The wreath is interrupted by rectangular rosettes atop each of the subtly scrolled legs which are embellished on their shoulders with laurel sprays in relief. Below appears a contoured caned shelf which also adds structural rigidity. Boasting its original gold finish that has achieved a lovely patina over the past century, this is a truly special find of a type that is getting more and more rare with each passing day!
