18th Century French Louis XVI Period Rustic Side Table is a dramatic example of the efforts of rural artisans to follow the dictates of the court. The reign of Louis XVI ushered in a return to classical architecture in building and furniture design, with this table a perfect example. Solid oak plank top with nice overhangs rests on a tailored plank apron connected to four legs that extend from the bottom of the top planks to the floor as one piece, with tapered and faceted form. A subtly scrolled "X" stretcher connects all legs together below for longevity and strength in the design. Note the squared pegs in the round holes of the mortise & tenon joinery, a sure sign that hand-craftsmanship was used throughout the build. Designed to last for centuries!
