17th Century Spanish End Table ~ Side Table is a marvelous artifact from centuries ago, when all furniture was completely made by hand. This design features a solid plank top connected with two longitudinal dovetails onto frame pieces that are then pegged into the casework containing the single drawer below. The drawer sports its original forged iron key guard and pine interior floor. The exterior of the piece is from old growth walnut with lots of natural figure and plenty of patina and signs of centuries of enjoyment and daily use. The legs are turned with an interesting variation on a spooling design, with blocks above and below to attach to the casework and four stretchers below, then to turned bun style feet. Note the pegged mortise & tenon joinery throughout the piece. The sumptuous old-growth wood shows forth in the subtle whitewashed finish that allows the beautiful grain to be visible, adding immeasurably to the visual appeal. Designed to be placed anywhere in the room one so desires, it will make a splendid rustic accent piece!
