19th Century Pewter Tankard by C. Dickman of Bruxelles is a beautiful example of the metalsmith's art, rendered in pewter which was by law at least 92% tin. This maker used an embossed stamp of St. George slaying the dragon as an identifier, and proudly displayed the royal seal indicating his merchandise had been approved by the administration of King Leopold, first monarch of Belgium. Timeless shape includes integral handle, and lid with a thumb latch that makes it easy for one-handed operation. Such tankards were used for a variety of liquids, many times the beers for which Belgium is so famous!
Circa mid-1800s
