18th Century Country French Louis XVI Period Commode was hewn from solid planks of old-growth oak to literally last for centuries! The casework was crafted using pegged mortise & tenon joinery which is the most tried and true method utilized for cabinetry but sadly no longer used because it's so labor intensive. The solid plank top features a beveled edge and trim molding underneath like a crown, overlooking three large and spacious drawers defined by horizontal laurel molding and adorned with diamond forms and laurel wreaths with ribbon at the centers. Cast brass ring pulls with guards as well as key guards add a nice visual touch. The cornerposts are fluted and reeded with wheat motif, leading the eye down to the tapered feed. Note the hand-chamfered solid plank back in the last photo!
