Early 19th Century French Directoire Period Stripped Oak Buffet is an historically significant piece, recalling the period as France transitioned out of the Empire style into a more staid architecture and level of embellishment that realized the essence of classicism. Diagonal patterns cut into the panels and drawers are accentuated by the fine molded detail, fluting, and a pair of turned columns on each corner. Rosettes are artfully placed for accents, with stylish steel bale pulls and key guards as a finishing touch. Completely hand-crafted from solid old-growth oak for centuries of daily use! Note the heavy rough-cut plank construction of the back in the photos supplied.
Circa 1800-1810
