19th Century French Normandie Buffet a Deux Corps in Stripped Pine represents the essence of the rural masterpieces that emerged from this storied region of France over the past millennium. The style features a boldly arched crown in three parts connected by scrollwork carved with acanthus leaf motif. The bonnet below follows the same arched contour and is defined with beaded trim and centered with a signature bouquet of flowers in a basket. The arched upper tier doors are notched at the center to accommodate the roundel with the floral basket, and are themselves adorned with similar molding detail and complementary floral and foliate embellishments. The lower part of the doors boast yet another roundel with clusters of grapes on the vine. The lower cabinet features foreshortened versions of the upper doors without the lower embellishment, and all four doors are hung with brass barrel hinges and fitted with fancy brass key guards. The contoured apron is centered with a crescent moon blending into the scrolled legs with escargot feet. Doors open wide to reveal capacious storage, making this gem as functional as it is attractive. Completely hand-crafted from old-growth indigenous yellow pine, it has been stripped to reveal the character and warmth of the wood for a casual yet impressive visual statement!
