18th Century Country French Painted Buffet a Deux Corps is a wonderfully preserved historically significant piece that is destined to enthrall your family for several more generations to come!  Hand-crafted from thick planks of seasoned old-growth oak, it features a bold crown overlooking a fancifully carved bonnet with wildflowers and foliates in bas relief over the subtly arched pair of upper cabinet doors.  The doors themselves feature lavish carved details on the top, with raised & recessed panels following the contours of the frame for added visual appeal.  Suspended by outside-mounted steel barrel hinges, each opens wide for easy access to the large interior with shelves.  The lower tier steps out a bit from the top, and includes two spacious drawers with steel bale pulls which overlook another pair of cabinet doors which are shortened versions of the upper tier doors in design and ornamentation.  A complex scrolled design for the apron below is festooned with complementary bas relief carvings of wildflowers and foliates, and is supported by massive legs with escargot feet.  Designed to store all a family's cherished heirloom china, crystal and silver in one beautiful storage cabinet, such buffets a deux corps were the pride of the household!  Painstakingly hand-painted with a lovely patinaed finish.  Note the hand-hewn planks from which the back side was comprised.
