19th Century Swedish Neoclassical Whitewashed Pine Armoire will command a stately presence in the room, but with a subtle elegance that enables it to blend with a wide variety of decors with varying degrees of casual themes. The crown molding was obviously inspired by the mid-19th century styling, also evident in the architecture of the piece drawn from ancient Greek and Roman designs. The turned front legs are more of a Gustavian touch, just below the tailored base molding. Doors are mounted on concealed yet outboard-mounted hinges that leave a very clean exterior look yet allow the doors to open almost 180 degrees for unencumbered access to the capacious interior within. Notch brackets are installed although the shelves have been lost over the years, so shelving could of course be reintroduced, or a hanging rod, or both ~ according to your needs. Two enormous interior drawers with brass bale pulls add great functionality. Note the double pegged mortise & tenon joints indicating the high level of hand-crafted excellence that went into its production. A brace of beautifully cast brass pulls were added at some point in its history to facilitate easy opening. A great choice as a closet space, or perhaps for a big flat panel TV! Professionally whitewashed by our expert in-house staff.
