19th Century French Renaissance Revival Hunt Buffet is an incredible example of the grandeur of the Renaissance Revival that captivated Europe during the last quarter of the 1800s. Utilizing select old-growth oak, the craftsmen created an impressive design that provides visual impact, yet is relatively narrow! An heraldic crest adorns the crown, flanked by arches undulating outwards towards the corners fitted with large turned finials. Bold crown molding with carving appears over the bonnet, also carved with a full relief heraldic crest flanked by foliates and framed by large rosettes on the corners. Below that is the glazed upper door, framed by carved molding and accented with carved overlay, providing a clear view into the display tier above which is fitted with two original adjustable shelves for three surfaces total. The glazed door is flanked by della robia style carving in relief on the corner pilasters, enhanced with corbels at the top and upturned acanthus flourishes at the base. The top display tier rests on the intermediate middle section, which consists of a finely carved backsplash and two supports luxuriously carved with more della robia carvings in bold relief. The carvings flank a modest display surface. Under that is the main cabinet, which duplicates the surrounding adornment of the upper tier with the exception of a lion's head at the center that also doubles as the drawer pull. The door opens wide to provide storage below with two surfaces, and the door itself is a work of the sculptor's art! Celebrating nature once again, the artists sculpted a game bird in the wild in glorious full relief for a splendid ode to the blessings of the Creator. Bold molding and bun feet complete the look.
