19th Century Gothic Revival Wrought Iron & Glass Sofa Table ~ Console is a stunning testament to the artistic craftsmanship of a clever blacksmith from a century and a half ago, combined with the talents of a modern day metalsmith!  The intricate detail of the ironwork must be studied closely to be fully appreciated.  Originally a pair of stately andirons with a crossbar for a sprawling chateau, the blacksmith followed the design parameters of the Gothic Revival made popular by Napoleon III during his reign.  Elaborately spun and forged orbs, castellated demilune legs, and dragons with outspread wings dominate the styling.  Atop the old andirons were open cup cages intended for copper or brass pots in the winter, and pillar candles in the summer.  Welded together back to back including the original crossbar as a decorative support, the modern metalsmith crafted a framework on top to support a generous 3/8" thick glass top, making this a table that is ideal for use as a console, behind a sofa, as a library table, or even as an intimate dining table!
