19th Century French Gothic Revival Library Table was fashioned from thick planks and beams of solid maple to literally last for centuries! The heavy top which features generously mitered corners to create a traffic friendly design, has been richly carved with an egg & dart pattern all around. Two huge cross beams supply support underneath, and are in turn supported by massive columns with acanthus plume crowns and continuous floral rosettes in a diamond pattern all around the entirety of the columns. Continuing the Gothic esthetic, the lower base is an enlarged version of the aforementioned cross beams, with acanthus leaf carvings on the ends creating a corbel effect, while on the transverse supports fanciful anthropomorphic lions' heads have been carved into the solid wood. Celebrating a style that is over a millennium in age, it is ready to carry the genre into the 22nd century!
Circa 1890s
