Weddings with the Elegance of the Past

Antique Letter EngravingThere’s something about spring that sparks in us a feeling of renewal and hope, and for great new beginnings.  The March issue of Grand Luxe magazine was devoted to weddings and the new adventures upon which couples embark as they plan the cherished ceremony amidst love and dreams.  If you are looking for antique inspirations for your spring events or weddings, below is the article of my monthly column as it appeared, plus many extra images from our photo shoot.  The original setting was the Dallas Country Club and the famed Tablescapes event last year.  My inspiration theme for the event was “Le jardin de rose Françoise”, and what could be more romantic than a rose garden ~ especially in the French style?  The antiques we used in this vignette were found on our buying trips throughout Europe – the antique painting from Italy, the jardinières from France, the 18th century buffet a deaux corps from Belgium, the antique china from Germany – all using a soft palette of creams, grays and powder blues.  The arrangements in this display demanded over 400 roses for the opulent look I wanted to achieve.

It’s Easy Being Green At Home

With green being such a prominent color in nature, we are often drawn to bring that color inside in order to have a part of nature in our homes.  It’s very easy to do this in home decor with emerald green as the Pantone color of the year and aloe green as Sherwin William‘s color of the year. With that being said and St. Patrick’s Day this Sunday, we’re dreaming of green.

Here are a few antiques and decor items available (as of this writing) so you won’t have to be green with envy!

Antique of the Week ~ Louis XVI Painted Commode

Antique Letter EngravingIf you are in love with the Louis XVI neo-classical style, you will love this antique French commode that we’ve just uploaded to our web store.  This exquisite chest of drawers was created during the reign of the maven of the rebirth of the classical style~ Marie Antoinette.  Rural artisans of 18th century France tended to follow the style lead by the reigning monarch and as a consequence, the styles generated out of Paris and the chateaux of the aristocracy.  This example~ crafted from hand-selected old-growth white oak~ features detailed carvings from an obviously talented and skilled wood sculptor, with floral and foliate motifs delicately carved into the actual drawer facade~ not applied.  A lovely neutral painted finish with a subtle patina gives it a light and airy effect.  Elegant solid brass pulls and key guards complete the timeless neo-classical look.  Circa 1770s.
