Antique Hand-Painted Ironstone Tobacco Jar is a fascinating find, indeed! Even if one does not use tobacco, it makes a great storage container for tea, sundry kitchen items and what-nots. Embossed around the perimeter are medieval motifs including a pride of lions taking down a bull, and a couple of well-dressed noblemen out falcon hunting with their faithful dog. Anthemion-style bordering above and below the scenes adds a nice touch, while cobalt blue fills the low spots in the embossing, accentuating the subjects in relief. The lid is well appointed as well, with matching bordering and a centered pineapple motif serving as the lid's knob. Stamped MR 1735 on the bottom, 3/4 of a liter.
Circa early 1900s
