Pair 19th Century Italian Hand-Painted Blackamoors with Pedestals are an extraordinary example of master Italian artistry!  Hand-painted with a polychrome finish to a degree of excellence, they were hand-carved with exceptional detail depicting holding torcheres.  Set upon pedestals that were added at a later date, they're finished on all sides and represent a matched pair, one male and one female figure.  The remarkable detail of the painting of their garments must be closely examined to be fully appreciated.  First made popular in Venice during the 18th century, they were frequently used to welcome guests into a lavish home, or were depicted on gondolas which are the distinctive boats used in that fabled city.
