19th Century Liegoise Louis XIV Canape ~ Settee is a marvelous work of the furniture maker's art! Crafted from dense, old-growth indigenous white oak by the master artisans of Liege known for their quality furnishings for centuries, it features a regal Baroque styling that consists of a triple arched seat back festooned with relief carvings of acanthus flourishes, wildflower sprays, shells, scrollwork, bell flowers, and intricate molded detail. The elaborate contours include three pierced splats and elegant contours leading to the ergonomically formed armrests, each also carved with complementary relief work, culminating in a glorious upturned acanthus flourish joining to the seat framework. The apron is contoured all around, blending into the boldly scrolled cabriole legs, with a continuation of the carved motifs in glorious detail, culminating in cloven hoof feet. The original mohair has seen better days and should be replaced in your coordinating fabric.
