Sale19th Century French Louis XIV Whitewashed Canape with Rams' Heads was sculpted from select French walnut, and features a timeless neoclassical design that dates back to the glory of ancient Greece and Rome. Unusual raised inverse corbels adorn the seatback cornerposts topped with lions' heads, with a stunningly carved stretcher connecting the legs below for added strength and longevity. The apron is a work of art unto itself, with angels' heads, fabric and laurel swags, suspended acanthus scrolls and rosettes atop the urn-form fluted legs. What is most striking, however, are the rams' heads on the ends of the armrests, sculpted to an incredible degree of lifelike artistry!
Recently upholstered in a pleasing neutral fabric with double piping, even on the back side making it ideal for placement anywhere in the room!
