19th Century French Louis Philippe Period Mahogany Sofa was hand-crafted during the first half of the century with style elements that were in a constant state of flux at the time.  The elegantly scrolled form represents the essence of the French scroll, and includes a graceful double-arched seatback, bold serpentine-shaped armrests and a solid, rounded apron across the entire width supported by reverse-scrolled feet carved with stylized fern fronds and lions' paws.  Other than the carving on the legs, the entire wraparound framework is devoid of carving to allow the sheer natural beauty of the exotic imported mahogany to shine forth, bookmatched to provide visual intrigue.  The slight curvature of the framework from the tips of the armrests all across the base also adds a nice effect.  Upholstery shows some wear but is very serviceable, and includes two matching bolsters.
