Antique Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by Karl Lewy (1855-1929) is a remarkable work from a very prolific artist who specialized in painting quaint genre scenes of interesting people interacting with the world and nature surrounding them.  Here we see a fair young maiden taking a break from reading in a rowboat to appreciate the beauty of a swan and ducks swimming nearby.  Lewy is known for his attention to detail and strong earth tones approaching an almost jewel-like quality of coloration.  The muted forest background and placid water add to the effect.  Recently re-backed to strengthen the canvas, it has been reframed in the last 30 years to make it easily able to survive to the end of this century without additional care.
