Antique Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by J. Verstecken shows an artist inspired by a quaint alleyway between two impressive homes lit by the diffuse light of a wintry sun concealed by heavy cloud cover, providing a dusk-like effect.  The leafless trees form an interesting silhouette against the dimly lit sky over the homes, with sharply angled roofs designed to shed snow.  Whitewashed stucco, terracotta and brick were used in timeless Flemish fashion to create the homes which were designed to last for generation after generation.  Such homes would have been considered those of the more prosperous inhabitants of a small European community.  Survives in its original frame.
