Antique Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by G. Brachez is a remarkable depiction of the architecture and lifestyle of the Middle Ages transitioning into the Industrial Age. A drawbridge in the immediate right foreground shows the ingenuity of the townsfolk to accommodate the canal system which interlinks most of the cities, villages and hamlets of the European countryside, with a windmill in the background hinting at the mechanical wonders yet to come. The quaint waterside village frontage overlooks the canal with a barge just arriving and dropping sail. A church spire appears in the distance representing the center of the settlement. Survives in its original frame, it is signed by the artist.
Circa early 1900s
