19th Century French Framed, Carved and Painted Panel is a superlative decorative element that was hand-carved by a particularly talented sculptor out of dense, old-growth white oak. Framed with planks joined with pegged mortise & tenons, the panel depicts a lavish floral swag suspended by small rosettes at each top corner, with a bouquet hanging directly beneath, and a stunning bouquet stretching across the gap in a most elegant manner. Completely rendered in solid oak in full relief, the detail is marvelous and depicts a variety of representations of roses on the vine, of various sizes and positions, representing a splendid botanical study. At some point many decades ago a painted finish was applied which though weathered still adds panache and highlights to the sculpture.
