19th Century Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by A. Marie dated 1889 is an unusual still life, glorifying the natural beauty of wildflowers as opposed to a meticulously arranged bouquet. The study also shows the life cycle of the fresh-cut flowers, from hours old to days old, reminding us of the circle of life. Marie makes good use of lighting effect in the work as well, with subtle shadows and variances throughout the composition. Originally signed by the artist, it was dedicated to a lady by the name of Marthe on the 19th of April in 1889. Marthe's significance in the artist's life has unfortunately been lost to history. The canvas was mounted on panel and the work was expertly re-framed prior to our acquisition in Europe.
