Representing a combination of techniques, the artist has skillfully blended the color palette in transition from background to subject. Using a muted light source, shadows enhance definition of the finer details. Celebrating the enjoyment of the bounty of the earth, seafood, citrus and varieties of grapes are all represented, making for an exceptional picnic lunch! Oysters were considered a delicacy in most of Europe at the time, as refrigerated transport had yet to be modernized. Survives in its intricately crafted gilded frame.
