19th Century French Napoleon III Period Wrought Iron Balustrade ~ Window Guard is a stunning work of the metalsmith's art! Hand-crafted during the middle of the 19th century, it features a classical influence evidenced in the Greek coin motif on top and bottom, in between which appear two panels of exquisite scrollwork adorned with foliates. The rounded sides provide a little room between the window and wall, and are themselves lavished with elaborate metal sculpting in solid iron, with the entire piece in riveted construction as per the traditional craftsmanship from centuries prior and extending through the entire 2nd Empire period. An excellent choice as an overlook rail on a switchback staircase, or perhaps an interior guard for a 2nd floor overlook onto a room with a vaulted ceiling, the possibilities are only limited by your imagination!
Circa 1860s
