Antique French Louis Philippe Period Silvered Mirror represents the epitome of tailored elegance that was achieved during the Restoration, a short-lived resurgence of the French monarchy that briefly returned to power between the French Revolution and the eventual establishment of the Republic.  Louis Philippe, unknown to many, was the one primarily responsible for saving Versailles from falling into ruin, which is a debt owed to him by the entire world!  This example features the classic multi-tiered molding completely enveloping the mirrored glass, with the original silvered finish worn through over a century of cleaning to reveal the gesso tones beneath. The classic curved shoulders contribute to the definitive expression of the style which, due to its classic simplicity, has remained popular for what will soon be two centuries!
