19th Century French Napoleon III Period Giltwood Mirror represents the transition from the more staid designs of the Louis Philippe period into the golden age of style revival heralded by the nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte.  The majority of the frame on the left, right and bottom sides are all identical to traditional Louis Philippe styles, but the top has been gloriously embellished with a profusion of French artistry depicting a scallop shell at the center surrounded by scrollwork, foliates and florals cascading to the shoulders on both sides.  The silvering is protected by planks of pine in the back, all still intact after almost 175 years!
Circa 1850s
