19th Century French Louis XVI Oval Painted Mirror represent the essence of the classical style, with a graceful oval form unencumbered with adornment on the sides and base, but lavished with a magnificent urn bursting with fruit and foliates centered on the crown. The urn is upheld by an acanthus plume base and flanked by scrollwork and acanthus fronds. Below that in a reverse radius appears a garland of fresh fruit, representing the bounty of the earth. The original beveled mirror survives, and its bevel follows the contours of the oval frame and the reverse radius at the top. Lovely painted finish in a neutral medium gray has achieved a lovely patina.
