Set of 6 Antique Liegeoise Needlepoint Dining Chairs includes one armchair! The exceptional quality of the set is immediately apparent, each being sculpted from select old-growth oak that is dense and hard to carve but once sculpted by a skilled artisan, will last much longer than other woods. The graceful form of the design is inspired by the Louis XIV French concept, with an open urn shaped backsplat, triple arched seatback crown, and generously sized seats. The armchair boasts two elegantly contoured armrests that are quite comfortable, and carved with acanthus plumes complementing the shell, acanthus plumes and cross hatching of the apron and four cabriole legs below. Each leg is tipped with cloven hoof feet. The seats steal the show, however, with hand-knotted needlepoint tapestry that is as durable as it is beautiful. Two of the chairs appear to have a similar design, and two more each have a similar design, with the fifth chair unique in the set. The armchair needlepoint is also unique in the set. Imagine the hour after hour of meticulous labor required to produce such a set, from the excellent sculpture of the frameworks to the artistry of the colorful tapestry seats!
