Set of Six 19th Century French  Louis XVI Carved Dining Chairs with Original Needlepoint are amazing works of the sculptor's and cabinetmaker's arts!  Each chair was hand-carved from solid, dense old-growth oak in breathtaking and lifelike full relief.  Starting with the elegant oval seat back frame, it has been topped with a crest motif surrounded by foliate scrolls and bursting with a fruit display.  The carvings continue in amazing detail around the entire seat back framework, depicting various fruits and grains amidst artfully placed foliate scrolls.  Even the short uprights that suspend the seatback have received the sculptor's attentions.  The framework below continues the celebration of nature's bounty amongst exquisite foliate work, carved into each leg and stretcher, with special attentions paid to the front stretcher which mirrors the work along the seat back crown.  For a coup de grace, each has been upholstered in hand-knotted needlepoint tapestry rendered in exquisite earth tones to depict floral bouquets.  What an incredibly timeless combination!
