19th Century Louis XVI Country French Secretary Desk is the epitome of efficiency with style! Artfully hand-crafted from dense, old-growth oak, it features a slant front design where the front hinges open to produce a brass-arm braced writing surface with four drawers and a small storage cabinet with another small interior drawer, all of which sport brass knobs. Three exterior full width drawers provide copious storage for anything else you might need, with the entire affair supported by finely turned legs. The ingenious part is that the design provides plenty of space for using a laptop or tablet, or even stationery, yet folds up to produce a piece that is only18 inches deep from the wall! A fine keyguard is mounted on the slant front, and three finely crafted cast brass key guards are centered on the drawers, but the carved detail is what's truly admirable. Four rosettes appear on each corner of the slant front with a wheat border, a motif that is repeated on the drawer fronts below, with a rosette centered on the apron. Truly a classic design inspired by the ancient Greek and Roman masters yet executed by talented rural French artisans using the materials and tools at hand.
