19th Century French Renaissance Writing Desk ~ End Table is a work of the sculptor's art, that also serves as a convenient student desk, writing table or library table.  Hand-carved from solid oak, it features a plank top with elaborately carved edge treatment, mitered on the corners to soften the effect on the room's traffic patterns.  The apron below is carved on all four sides with amazing foliate scrolls in bold relief, with a full width drawer on one side that is revealed only by the turned wooden knob.  On the aforementioned mitered corners we see lions' heads in full relief mounted on corbel structures with carved pendant finials.  Arch and scrollwork form the apron, and the entire casework is supported by a brace of boldly carved urn pedestals.  The pedestals in turn are mounted to a classic "H" frame structure below, but with amazing foliate carvings across the trestle, and four dolphins fancifully carved to serve as the feet.  Carved all around so it can even serve in the middle of a room!
